Can I use chatGPT for my resume or job search?

How can it help -

Leveraging AI (Artificial Intelligence) technologies such as ChatGPT can help to provide nuanced career support to students. In this series, we will unpack the used cases of ChatGPT in University and College career advising, highlighting some step-by-step strategies to unlock its prowess on resumes, cover letters, interview preparations, career exploration strategies and Networking techniques. We will also share some caution and ethical considerations when using ChatGPT.

Resumes Tip– We highly recommend preparing a functional resume before using ChatGPT to enhance its effectiveness. Please review Resume & Cover Letter Toolkit (links) & Resume Workbook. You could also attend our online workshop on Resume & Cover letter available through CLNx. Strategy 1 – Looking for Skills (soft, hard, and transferable skills) required for a particular job.

Step 1 – Copy and paste the job description in the chat box of the ChatGPT.

Step 2 – Enter the prompt - “Help me identify the soft, hard and transferable skills based on the job description above”

ChatGPT will distil all three kinds of skills needed to highlight on your profile based on the job description in its response.

Step 3 – Compare and see if you have been able to incorporate all relevant top skills in your resume. Remember, most jobs require a mix of all three types of skills.

Step 4 – Now, try to rewrite your work experiences (paid, unpaid, internships, co-op, volunteer, workstudy, and etc) by incorporating skills identified above.

Pro tip – If you wish to know more about soft, hard, and transferable skills, we recommend you attend our Know Your Skills workshop available through CLNx
